Complete waste of its extensive research and facts。 This victim mentality is not going to solve the problems of Latin America。 Despite the author’s biased and Marxist conclusion， I do agree with him that contemporary wealth explosion in the western world also means exploitation of developing countries/poor people。 Just not much solution other than repetitive complaints。 The first chapter is worth reading and you can skip the rest。

This book is dense - lots of facts and figures and it's hard to imagine one man compiling the vast quantities of information about trades， deficits and exploitation that Galeano does。 However， this book points to one glaring conclusion: over time， Latin America has been， for lack of a better word， raped。 The story goes throughout the centuries and Galeano details the extent of it from the Spanish to the British to the United States。 If you're interested in aspects of colonialism， neo-colonialism This book is dense - lots of facts and figures and it's hard to imagine one man compiling the vast quantities of information about trades， deficits and exploitation that Galeano does。 However， this book points to one glaring conclusion: over time， Latin America has been， for lack of a better word， raped。 The story goes throughout the centuries and Galeano details the extent of it from the Spanish to the British to the United States。 If you're interested in aspects of colonialism， neo-colonialism， imperialism and would like cold， hard details about the bleeding dry of Latin American soil， minerals， raw materials， human labor and the poverty intentionally enforced upon millions， Open Veins of Latin America is a book that will satiate your interest。 I would love to see the updated figures， as the book was published in the 1970s and in my estimation， it's near impossible these one-way 'free trade' relationships between the US and Latin America have come to a halt。 。。。more

Aunque es un libro muy interesante， creo que llega a ser demasiado largo。 No lo he acabado， lo dejé a 100 páginas del final porque se hacía muy tedioso。 Creo que un hilo conductor más fino y breve hubiera ayudado mucho， pero de todos modos merece la pena totalmente leer para aquellos interesados en poner en contexto los movimientos revolucionarios y el sentir de los pueblos oprimidos de Latinoamérica。
